Badey & Watson, Surveying & Engineering, P.C. is a
Professional Corporation licensed by and registered with
the New York State Department of Education. The firm
evolved from a partnership, Badey & Watson, Land
Surveyors, which was established in 1973. The practice has
been active and continuous in New York's Hudson Valley
since then.
Badey & Watson offers services in
most areas of Surveying and Civil Engineering. Originally
established as a Land Surveying practice, it has developed a
strong information base in its practice area. The principals
have contributed to that base by developing an extensive
understanding of the resources available in the locale. In
addition to public records, the firm has accumulated one of the
largest libraries of private land related information available
in the area. This information includes land survey records,
topographic mapping, an extensive library of aerial photography
including 2 sets of photos covering the entirety of Putnam
County, historic maps and land records.
Badey & Watson is the owner of the files of the
following firms that practiced in the area: Taconic
Surveying & Engineering, PC.; Joseph S. Agnoli, L.S.;
Burgess & Behr, Engineering & Surveying; Roy A. Burgess,
P.E., L.S.; Vincent Burruano, L.S.; Hudson Valley
Engineering Company, Inc.; James W. Irish, Jr., P.E., L.S.;
J. Wilbur Irish, P.E., L.S.; Douglas A. Merritt, L.S.;
Edward B. Moebus, P.E., L.S.; Reynolds & Chase, Civil
Engineers & Surveyors; and D. Walcutt, L.S.
The firm offers services in most areas of surveying,
mapping and civil engineering, including: land surveying;
topographic mapping; laser scanning; geodetic control;
wetlands mapping; constraints mapping; slope analysis;
construction layout; subdivision planning, design and
presentation; site planning and design; sanitary design;
drainage analysis and design; roadway design and layout;
and landscape design.
Badey & Watson has had significant experience with
land acquisitions and easements for conservation and
preservation purposes. While the acquisition of land for
these purposes is not unusual, the creation of a
conservation easement is often highly technical and
unusually complicated. The preparation of descriptions for
these easements, with appropriate references to residual
rights, parcel boundaries and other related easements,
such as might be required for access, is frequently a very
involved process. We have participated in preparing
surveys for many conservation easements. We frequently
assist attorneys in developing appropriate language for
this type of acquisition. We often contribute to the
proper construction of a conservation easement by
identifying items relating to physical characteristics of
the property that were not obvious to others involved in
the transaction.
The firm has taken an active role in the environmental
analysis of many projects. Our involvement has included
project leadership and coordination as well as active
preparation of base data and accumulation of available
resources necessary for the preparation of environmental
documents. It has also included the completion of many
Full Environmental Assessment Forms, several of which
required the preparation of extensive Part 3 analyses.
Badey & Watson has also taken an active role in the
community, supporting and donating services for the
benefit of Volunteer Fire Companies and Ambulance Corps.,
Butterfield Library, Mahopac Sports Association, The Cold
Spring Village Dock Restoration Project, Philipstown
Little League, Philipstown Town Park, The Lake Mahopac
Rotary, and Habitat for Humanity.
